Let’s face it, chafing is never, ever enjoyable for anyone. And nothing’s worse than when you’re wearing your wetsuit while doing a water sport activity and notice the irritation taking its toll on your performance and your fun.
Maybe your skin is just super sensitive or the seams of your wetsuit are causing the discomfort and chafe. Either way, chafing shows no mercy. So here are a few tips to prevent chafing caused by your wetsuit:
1- Wearing a well fitting wetsuit is the number one way to reduce chafing. Keep in mind that the “right fit” will be different for every person
2- Wearing a specific wetsuit helps to prevent chafing because it has been designed with flexibility and mobility to support sport specific movements.
3- The interior seams of a wetsuit are the joints between the different pieces or panels of neoprene and they are a common area that causes chafing. Look for raised or bumpy seams, deteriorated joints, loose taping, or cracked welds.
4- Glide on or lube up with anti chafe balm: It goes on smooth, stays on for a long time and really works!
5- Rash guards are a thin shirt that offers protection from rashes, skin irritation and the sun. They don’t provide much warmth but they can be layered under a wetsuit to prevent chafing.
6- Don’t change into your wetsuit on the sand
Keep these tips in hand and have fun!
